Getting to the Fun Part!

Okay, so the time has come that the house is moving right along and it's time to pick out fancy things, like fireplaces and front doors. Yay! The thing is, we didn't have a fireplace in this house and that was totally our mistake! I thought, why do we need a fireplace when it rarely gets cold here in TX?! Duh!!! For Christmas! I have always regretted not having one, especially when it came time to hang stockings, so I made sure we are having one in our new house.

I was looking online last night and found this beautiful fireplace thing you can buy. I don't know what they're called. LOL! Isn't it so pretty though? We thought we would build bookshelves on each side of the fireplace and hang the TV above it, but we aren't sure yet. Do y'all have fireplaces and if you do, do you have your TV above it or someplace different? Do you have built-ins around it? Feel free to share! I need help because I am not a decorator at all!!!!

I'm still deciding on the front door I want. Tomorrow, we are going over there to look at the living room because it is narrower and longer than our current one and I'm not sure how we're going to arrange our furniture with where the fireplace is going. I'm actually kind of concerned about it and I don't know how we missed not making sure the design would work. Ugh! This is just what you run into when you design your own house. Because there are no models or real pics to look at and you're trying to look at plans and picture how big things will be in real life and my mind just doesn't work that way. Ha! We don't want to put furniture and block the view where the back windows are going to be, but when you walk in the front door, you're basically in the living room almost and then both of the other walls have door ways and things like that, so we don't have a lot of wall space. I might have to have some of you decorators help me out!

You can sort of see what I mean. These will be windows on the back wall and to the right of them is an archway that leads to the kitchen. On the left corner of this pic, you can see where the fireplace will be, so I don't know where our couch, loveseat, and chair are going to go without blocking doorways, etc. And Morgan said we need to decide now so they can do the built-ins for however wide the fireplace will need to be and for shelving or whatever we want. I'll see if I can get a better pic tomorrow.
This picture is from today. I couldn't believe how awesome our framers are! We were astonished that they worked every day, even through the harsh weather we had the past few days. Now we can really see what the house is going to look like and it's so fun seeing it come to life! The girls rooms are on the left, the dining room is to the right of the front door, and of course that's the garage up front. We had to put the garage up front since our lot is narrow. Our bedroom, kitchen, laundry room, and bathroom are all behind the garage on the right side of the house. And of course, the living room is in the middle behind the front door.
This house is going so much faster than when we built our current house. The race is on to simplify and get rid of what we don't use/need and to figure out what furniture we are going to use in which room. We will no longer have a playroom for toys or extra storage space, so it really is necessary to take only what we really need and use. I'm excited because I am the opposite of a hoarder.......I love to get rid of things. I hate clutter and I hate holding on to things, unless they have sentimental value. Things make me stressed and nervous and I am so looking forward to having a house that I can keep clean and where everything must have a definite space and place. I have found that the more room you have, the more room there is for bigger messes. Ha! I love cozy spaces and this house is going to be so much more like a home.

Everyone keeps asking us what we are going to do if our current house hasn't sold. Well, we will do what we have to! What choice do we have?! We prayed and trusted the Lord with this decision. We asked Him to please close the door on this if it wasn't a wise decision. And what He did was He closed the door on the house next door to this lot and opened up this lot for sale at a price that is half of what lots normally go for on the bay. We kept praying and He kept opening doors and we will do whatever we have to and keep trusting Him as we do it!

Hey! Thought I'd finally hop over here to see what I've missed and I'm so excited to see this new post about the house! It's coming along so fast and it looks amazing!

I'm not gonna be of help with the questions you posed about where to arrange stuff because I am terrible at things like that, sorry! We have a fireplace here but we have to put the tv right in front of it. The kids like to get into it and touch things so it's better off that way for us.

I hope that your house sells soon and I'm just going to keep praying that the Lord will give you guys direction in that area. I know everything will work out!

It sure is coming right along! That fireplace is kind of similar to ours...I love it. Yes, if you are short on wall space, do put the tv above the fireplace, and then the DVD etc can go on the built in shelves.

And you can cozy up the furniture around the fireplace in a U shape. Leaving space to walk behind, (Couch facing the fireplace, with the love seat closest to the front door facing the windows to the back of the living room and then a chair across from the love seat) Ok that probably confuses you...but that's my 2 cents worth! (:>)

Wish I were there to help you...I love that kind of thing.

You will have fun...and I am so happy for you.

Love, Momma Linda

I can't get over how fast things are going! I love that fireplace / mantle picture. And I definitely thing the thing to do now is put the tv over the fireplace. I'm not 110% sold on that idea, but it's the thing to do. We actually have put an offer down on a house that has a narrow living room. And a fireplace in the middle. So I've wondered how we'd set up the room, similar to what you're thinking without the view of a beautiful bay for us! We would be on a lake, though. . . Anyway, I'll be interested to see what you decide! And I remember when Linda posted about her home; she has great taste in decorating! Invite her to come on down to Texas and help ya! :)

Wow it really is coming along nicely. I would love a real fireplace in our next house. This one has an electric one and I am scared to use it :)
Pick out a front door for me too. I need a new one and a back door as well.
