The Narrow Gate

The Narrow Gate

There was an enormous crowd
walking toward me.
They talked and laughed
and smiled with glee.

They all looked the same.
Some rich, some poor.
They all seemed to be heading
for this really wide door.

They didn't seem frightened.
They were the status quo.
But I was headed against them
being tossed to and fro.

They looked at me strangely.
They didn't understand.
They tried to grab me
and take hold my hand.

I kept pulling away
even though it brought me pain.
So many loved ones in that crowd
that I would never see again.

They didn't look worried.
In this life, satisfied.
They thought I was stupid
for the tears I now cried.

"Why don't you just come with us?
So much easier it would be!"
But I fought against that crowd.
Their future they couldn't see.

There were only a handful
who decided to come with me.
This crowd was mocking us -
"How ignorant can you be?!"

We tried to get them to follow us.
"This pain will be worth the reward!"
But what was beyond that door sustained them
like a mother's umbilical cord.

I kept fighting against the crowd
to run the opposite way.
My Jesus, He did notice this -
"Well done, my child," I felt Him say!

For I had chosen the path
that few did choose that day.
I was still a sinner,
but He had paid my way.

For those in that crowd
had done good in their life,
but had rejected my Jesus
because His way required strife.

Some had went to church all their lives,
even donated to the poor,
but still when that day did come
they followed the crowd toward the giant door.

For they didn't truly know
what for us few was innate,
though our path was painfully longer,
we kept heading toward that narrow gate.

For the truth, it sat within our hearts
as we cried for that lost crowd.
Though their way was so much easier than ours,
their judgement was blinded by his smoky cloud.

For Jesus' love was all we did need,
to make it to the gate.
The Book of Life was waiting there
with our names and salvation dates!

What joy I felt to be welcomed home.
I knew this was the way!!
For I had never felt more loved
than I did on this special day.

I saw my Jesus look past me
toward the crowd that was moving away.
Then, tears rolled down his gentle face.
His heart, their decision did slay.

"It was always their choice
whether or not to be with me.
As they walk through that wide door,
what life is like without me, they'll soon see."

"For nothing that they had before
will matter to them in there.
All their money, religion, and good deeds
will get them absolutely nowhere."

"For everything good that they ever had
was because I created it for them.
Once they enter that door, I will be gone
and they'll be left to burn with him."

But love cannot exist without a choice
and He loves us all enough to let us choose.
Though He loves us so, by rejecting Him,
eternal happiness we will forever lose.

Our lives are but a vapor
and He loves us enough to say,
"Won't you trust in me, for tomorrow may not come,
and run the opposite way today?"

The Invitation

I arrived at my destination.
I knew it was where I'd go.
They were there to greet me
with more love than I'd ever known.

The colors were so vibrant,
Unlike anything I'd ever seen!
The skies were more than blue.
The grass was more than green.

The beautiful sights
were overwhelming to me.
They were more than any child
could ever imagine to see.

So enveloped in such wondrous love,
I had no thoughts of life before.
If they could see what it was like
their tears would be no more!

Sweet children danced,
hearts filled with glee.
Their circle opened up
to make some room for me.

Then suddenly I felt His presence,
for we were dear friends, you see.
My Jesus' excitement was very real
and it was all for me!

His joy was contagious!
I couldn't help but smile.
I was so glad to finally see His face
and chat for a little while.

We talked about those I left behind.
He said they'd be okay.
"One day we'll come to greet them,
but that will have to wait for another day."

"The plans I have for them aren't done,
and as they tell others of your story,
Those they tell will be led to me
and it will all be for our Father's glory."

I hugged Him tight. I was finally home,
and I knew they'd understand.
It was my time to be with Jesus
even if it wasn't what they'd planned.

I watched Him as He held them up.
They felt his sweet embrace.
They never doubted He was there,
though they couldn't see His face.

And when it was time for them to join us
Jesus' heart filled with pride
as I took my parent's hand in mine
and invited them inside.

Eternity

Sitting here thinking,
Wishing you were here.
Time stands still
as death draws near.

Hard time are these
for us to bear,
The thought of losing someone
for whom we care.

As I sit by,
you remain in my thoughts.
Like a child I cry.
Deep down I am caught.

Feeling I have to be strong,
the pain I withstand.
I long to sit by you
and take hold your hand.

For when you're gone,
your smile will stay
in my thoughts
each and every day.

In Heaven you'll reign.
Like a princess, you'll live.
No more pain
will your disease give.

No longer suffering,
in peace you will be.
Forever and ever,
for eternity.

That was a poem that I wrote about my MeMe, in the days right before she went to be with the Lord. I was 14 when I wrote it. The picture above is of my MeMe and I, on my first Christmas with my new family (I was adopted when I was 13 months old). She made that precious dress that I'm wearing. I will always remember her as the beautiful, loving, caring woman that she was. She always had a smile on her face and would always greet us at the back door with her apron on when we came to visit. She was always cooking up something delicious in the kitchen. I will never forget how much I enjoyed just sitting at her kitchen table, listening to her and my Mom visit. She always made me feel so very loved! What comfort it is to know that she and my Mom are spending eternity together, and that one day I will join them again. We have a lot of catching up to do!!

The Sound of her Voice

The Sound of her Voice

She picked me up
so lovingly
and held me close
while she sang to me.

I didn't know her,
but I hoped she'd stay.
This was the very first time
I had felt this way.

But like all days do,
this one came to an end.
I wondered if I would ever
see her again.

The days kept coming
and I missed her so.
I just wish I knew
why she had to go.

Then one day it happened.
To her arms I was passed.
How did I get here?
It all happened so fast.

"Here's your new Mommy,"
my Mother did say.
"I cannot raise you while
I live my life this way."

At that very moment
I knew it was meant to be.
God's plan unfolding perfectly
to give this life to me.

So now it's years later
and I have children of my own.
But never did I take for granted
the love that I was shown.

The gift I was given
was the greatest there could be.
For there is no greater gift on Earth
than to have a family.

My angel is no longer here
for her time had come, you see.
I was not ready for her to go.
Why did she have to leave me?

It was hard at first
to understand,
but I knew deep down
this was part of His plan.

The gift He gave
was not mine to keep.
But it's hard to let go
of a love so deep.

Each day I pray
and I thank Him for
giving me my angel
and so much more.

She taught me to love Him
and to believe
and to trust in Him all things,
even when we grieve.

The lesson I'm learning
as He teaches me, is that
sometimes things don't turn out
the way we'd like them to be.

But I praise Him each day
for the gift that He gave.
Forever cherishing my Mom
in the memories I save.

Until we meet again
in Heaven above,
I'll remember the warmth
of her undying love.
Then tears of joy will fall
at the sound of her voice
as I step through the gate
and I hear her rejoice!
