Well, I need to do a Christmas post, but thought I'd just go ahead and do a resolutions one instead. LOL!
Last year at this time, I had no idea what was ahead! I wrote my resolutions post here, and I talked about how busy we were going to be, with building a house and Morgan being in school. Having a baby wasn't even on my radar then! If I look back on 2011, I think what sums it up are these words:
Unexpected Blessings!!
It's like all of our dreams that we didn't even realize we had came true last year. We built a home on the water, which was a dream we never expected to come true. We had the little boy that we never dreamed we would have. I got to meet my very best friend that I never thought I'd get to meet, Veronica! So many people blessed us in so many ways last year. I was telling Veronica the other day that I was watching Joyce Meyer and she said that when God has us bless people, it has nothing to do with what we give them; it's more about them feeling God's love through our giving. I thought to myself that is so true! Through every note, comment, gift, prayer, and action that others showed me last year, the one thing I felt from all of it was God's love. What a blessing!
So, I like to look at what I had hoped to accomplish and see if I did. Then, I also like to make some new resolutions. Here goes!
Last year's resolutions:
1. Open up Summer Suzette Couture again.
Well, this one never did really happen. I realized that I love using the skills I've learned to make things when needed for the girls or for gifts, but I just don't enjoy sewing enough to do it every day. I think that's okay. Maybe one day, when I have more time, and can learn more, I will do it again.
2. Lose 30 pounds.
This one makes me LOL, since I ended up getting pregnant. Ha! I gained 18 pounds, but lost 26, for a net loss of 8 pounds. Not too bad.....I probably wouldn't have been able to lose that much if I had tried. :D I don't know how it happened, because since I've had him, I'm hungry all the time again!
3. Finish clearing everything out before we move.
I was pretty successful at doing this and we did end up moving a bunch of stuff that we didn't really need, but Morgan cleared it all out a few weekends ago, so we're doing pretty good. This house we built has no extra storage, except in the attic, so it helps that we just don't have space for a bunch of extra stuff!
4. Try out new recipes.
I think this one went pretty well. I added a few new meals to our rotation, thanks to the good ol' crock pot that I had never really used before. Yay!
5. Take more trips to Houston.
Still working on this one.....just didn't have much time last year to do it!
6. Learn html so I can do my own blog design.
I bought photoshop elements last year and I like it okay, but I already had Publisher and I think it's way more user friendly for making my blog header, so I use it instead. I just don't have time to learn much more than that.
New Resolutions for 2012:
1. Learn to listen to God and be obedient to the ways He would have me bless others.
Going back to what Joyce Meyer said, it just really has stuck with me. Often, I will feel in my spirit that I should do something for someone, but then I'll write it off because it's just something insignificant or small. Well, what she said made me realize that it's not up to me to decide.....I want to be obedient when God whispers those things to me so that He can show His love to others through the ways He chooses to use me.
2. Make church a priority again.
I just really haven't made church a priority lately and I really miss it. I was going to bible study on Wednesday nights, but quit going toward the end of my pregnancy and so I'd like to start that again when they start a new one. It's so easy to just not go to church because I'm tired or because it's so hard to get everyone ready, especially with a newborn, but it's so important and I know I need to be there.
3. Read my bible.
When I was going to bible study, we were studying Galatians, and I remember being amazed at how we could talk an entire hour about just one chapter. I doubt I would have ever gotten that much from one chapter if I had just read it on my own. I was thinking the other day how much I love the Lord and I talk about Him all the time and I feel like we have a great relationship, yet I don't even have the books of the bible memorized and haven't even read most of them. And you know what? That's okay, because we can come to the Lord right where we are and we don't have to know all these things before we can come to Him. BUT, His word is life and it is Truth, and I am missing out on growing in my faith with Him if I do not access the incredible gift of it that He has given me! Besides that, regarding my anxiety and fear issues that I battle, I have felt for a long time the Lord telling me that it's so simple.....if I would just read my bible, it would be like medicine to my soul.
4. Get in shape.
I'm not really concerned with losing weight. I'm learning to just accept myself and the way God made me. I'm not going to be a size 2 or 4 or even 6 or 8, for that matter. Haha! But, I would like to eat healthy again like I did when I was pregnant, because I feel much better when I do. And I would like to figure out something I can do, exercise-wise, to get in better shape. We will see what I can come up with that I will actually stick with. LOL!
Well, that's about all I can think of this year! I don't want to go crazy, because having a newborn and 3 sweet girls takes up most of my time these days! I have been loving reading everyone else's posts on their goals for the new year. I pray that 2012 is a great year for all of us!

New Year's Resolutions
I just realized I never sat down today to make a list of goals for this new year! I haven't really thought much about them, so I think I'll just start listing them and see what I end up with! :)
1. Lose 30 pounds. I'm putting this one back on the list for this year. Last year, it was just a dream. This year, it is a necessity. I can no longer wear my wedding ring. I'm starting to feel miserable. My foot has been swelling for no reason at all. I still wear the same size I've worn for years, but I plan to change that this year!! I realized a few weeks ago that there is no reason to be down about my weight, because this is one thing that I can definitely control!
2. Create new products and open Summer Suzette Couture back up again.
3. Finish clearing everything out that we don't use/need so that when we move, it will be much easier! I don't want to haul stuff to the new house that we're never going to use.
4. Try out new recipes for dinner.
5. Take more trips to Houston to fun places with the girls.
6. Learn enough about html to do my own blog design. I bought Photoshop Elements with my Christmas money and I'm excited to learn how to use it.
I know the first 6 months of this year are going to be absolutely crazy. The girls have lots of fun things going on, Morgan will be at night school on most nights, we're building a house, and dance recital is going to be total chaos since the girls will probably have close to 10 dances between the two of them! I am hoping we get to move into our house in May, so I think we will all breathe a sigh of relief once mid-June gets here! However, I have found that I do SO much better when I have a busy schedule. It really keeps me focused on the moment, instead of worrying about what's ahead or thinking about the past. Staying busy makes me feel more productive and I love a good challenge! I just want to enjoy every moment, because like my Pastor always says:
"Yesterday is already gone. Tomorrow may not come. This moment, this day right now, this IS your life!!" (or something like that) :D
Happy New Year everyone!!!!!!

Well, it was really hard to come up with those, because honestly, I just feel so happy and blessed that it doesn't seem right to try and think of things that I want to change.I know the first 6 months of this year are going to be absolutely crazy. Revisiting 2010 Resolutions!

New Year's Resolutions
Okay, so now is the time to revisit last year's resolutions and see which ones I accomplished! I think it's always great to have goals, but the truth is, every day is a gift and the real accomplishment is just learning to live each day to the fullest! But, I do love doing this because it's really fun to look back and remember my goals and make new ones for the future.
So, let's see which 2010 goals were accomplished:
1. Figure out what my divine burden is.
This was the one I was most excited about last year! I thought for sure I had this one all figured out. Your divine burden is what gets you all fired up....something you care about that maybe no one else really does....something you are passionate about.....something that God has broken your heart for. I do know for sure that part of mine is the orphan crisis. I love to see all the adoptions taking place, both international and domestic! I also am passionate about being anti-abortion. And lately, the homeless have been on my heart. I think what this all adds up to is that God has given me a heart for speaking up for those who cannot speak for themselves and caring for the less fortunate. What I've learned is that there are always ways that God can use us to care for those who are lonely, hurting, and down. I used to think once I figured out my divine burden, that I would devote my life to that cause. But, I think what I've learned is that God has given me a caring heart and there are many ways daily that He can use me to offer His hope to others who are suffering.
2. Figure out which direction to go with my business. My goal for my business in 2010 is to create a product that I am really happy with, and just run with it!
Well, I think I'm close to figuring this one out, but last year was so busy that I just didn't have much time to devote to my business.
3. Lose 30 pounds!
LOL!!!! I think I actually gained 10 pounds last year! But, I have started drinking more water, exercising, and eating better this week and I've lost 5 pounds. It will happen this next year!
4. Organize my home and get rid of everything that we don't need or use.
I did pretty good on this one and I'm going through everything again in the next few weeks so that we won't be moving anything that we don't absolutely need!
5. Find a great cause that I can help out with and be passionate about.
Again, I have discovered that it's not about finding one specific thing. It's about being willing to help in whatever way He leads me.
6. Go on a vacation this summer.
We didn't do this one either, but I'm okay with that! I just don't know how people afford vacations!
7. Meet some of my blogging friends.
Maybe this will happen one day!
8. Overcome my traveling issues.
I've come a long way on this one and made lots of progress!
9. Read the bible more and lots more books!
I didn't do good on reading my bible daily. I know that's so important. I did read 28 books last year. They were all Christian non-fiction except for one, so I definitely learned a lot!
10. Budget better and cook more, so that we don't spend so much money on eating out!
We did really great on this one. We started several months ago with the envelope system....putting cash money for each category in envelopes and we have done really good sticking to our budget. We have done really good with cooking at home most of the time too. I am really proud of us!
11. Get Lily to sleep in her own bed.
*laughs hysterically* Ummmm, yeah........this one totally didn't happen. And we're starting to get really squished. I have a feeling when we move to a one story house, it will be pretty easy to transition her into her own room.
12. Write something (besides blog posts).
I just didn't have time for this one! I still dream of writing a book one day though!
13. Do lots more fun things with the girls.
I think we did pretty good on this one. :)
14. Make a point to do more family things on the weekends.
I think we did pretty good on this one too. We can do better though!
15. Find a babysitter, so we can have date nights!
You know what's funny? The few times the girls were all gone at night, or for a period of time, we really don't know what to do with ourselves. It just feels wrong and neither one of us like it. We truly enjoy spending time with our girls and having them here. I love our family!!! We have discovered that we both love being at home. That is our idea of a perfect night. Watching a movie, relaxing.
16. I talked alot about anxiety and missing my Mom in 2009. My goal for 2010 is to stop that. I believe there is great power in the words we choose. I have to stop proclaiming that anxiety is a part of my life, and start proclaiming that I have nothing to fear! I am going to put my trust in the Lord, and step out in faith and do all those things that I have allowed the enemy to steal from me! I will always miss my Mom, but it's time for me to live the life that she would've wanted me to. I've already come such a long way in 2009 and I believe 2010 is going to be even better!
Anxiety is that constant thorn in my side. I look at how much I've learned and how much I've grown in my faith these past two years and the enemy knows that this anxiety is the only way to keep me from complete freedom. I have done so well to step out in faith at times when I seriously thought I couldn't. And it is always thrilling when I make it through by relying only upon His strength. It's something that most will never understand. But you know what? It has made me more compassionate and understanding. I truly understand what it is like to have to meet someone right where they are. We have to understand that sometimes, even believers, have literally nothing left to give, and that is where we come in......to encourage, to pray for, to lift up, to carry. That is how we can be the hands and the feet of Jesus!
I have overcome many hurdles this past year. I have learned SO much about myself. The Lord has shown me that I don't have to save the world, I don't have to be perfect, I don't have to be the "teacher's pet" when it comes to serving Him the right way! I realized just how much I thrive on the praise of man, instead of being humble in knowing that I have done what God has asked of me. I also learned that I am not responsible for the things that others do. I learned that it's okay to stand up for what you believe in, even when it costs you almost everything, but that you can't forget to love first. Most of all, I have been loved by my Jesus in ways that I never even imagined were possible!
2010 was a great year! It went by SO fast and I believe that great things are in store for 2011!!!
I love my family and I love our life! It is so true that God will bless you more than you ever dreamed was possible!
So, let's see which 2010 goals were accomplished:

A Letter, A Divine Burden, and Band!

I've been meaning to post about this for awhile. One day, I was gone shopping and I came home and found this letter:
Evidently, the cotton ball on Lily's poodle skirt I had made her fell off. I just thought it was hilarious that Madison wrote me a letter and put in on my sewing table, along with the skirt. LOL!! I just wanted to make sure and post about it, so I can look back on it. Kids are so funny!
I have SO much to do this week, but I am tired!! LOL!! Luckily, we have no more dance this year and the girls don't really have any homework this week. I still have teacher gifts to make and goody bags to make and someone at Madison's school had a bright idea to have them wear "colonial style" clothing to school on Wednesday for Colonial Day...........right here before Christmas! I really have tons to do and going around trying to figure out what kind of skirts they wore during colonial times was not exactly what I had on my agenda. Ha!! I always try to look at the bright side though, and so I thought this will give me a great reason to shop at our pregnancy center resale shop.....so really it will be a chance to make a donation by purchasing a skirt there. Let's pray they have some kind of long colonial skirt. :D
This year, our church has some members who are going to be traveling into Mexico for Christmas, so we are donating lots of things so that they can drop them off at Lily of the Valley orphanage in Chihuahua, Mexico. I was so excited, because one of my resolutions this year was to figure out my "divine burden". Your divine burden is what God has given you a passion for, what breaks your heart, what He has placed upon your heart and called you to care about. Well, my divine burden is the orphans/adoption, so to find out about this opportunity was just like a huge blessing! I went shopping today and I had to stop myself several times from just crying in the middle of the hair goodies aisle at Target. I was just looking at all the pretty things and picturing a little girl putting them in her hair, and hoping and praying that she will know that she is loved and that someone here in Texas cares about her.......that Jesus loves and cares about her. It just made me realize how much I take for granted. Every day I hurry through brushing and fixing my little girls' hair, putting pretty bows and clips in them, hugging them and giving them a kiss and telling them to have a great day. How many sweet little girls don't have that? Oh, it breaks my heart.
I have thought a lot about my business, Summer Suzette Couture, and I have decided to shut it down for awhile. I'm donating the remaining things to the orphanage. I just do not have any time at all right now to focus on it and you just can't run a successful business when you don't have time to devote to it. I may open it up again in a few months, if I can streamline my products into things that aren't quite so time-consuming.
Today, Kaylee came home with a letter saying that she was being invited to be in the new primary school band! Evidently, her music teacher was awarded a grant for this project and they are going to practice on Mondays (our one free evening.....thank goodness it didn't conflict with her dance!) and will be learning to read music and focusing on mainly percussion instruments. Doesn't that sound so neat?! They've never had this before, so I am honored that Kaylee was chosen. She is really coming into her own and blossoming with her own unique talents. I love that!
Whew! Busy, busy, busy............and lovin' it!

New Year's Resolutions
I was so glad that I wrote down my resolutions for last year, because it was fun seeing which ones I actually accomplished. Normally, I don't really care much about resolutions, but it will be fun to look back and read them when the year is over! If 2010 is anything like 2009, it will be over in a flash!
These are in no particular order. I'm just writing them down as they come to me.
1. Figure out what my divine burden is.
2. Once I figure that out, I will know which direction to go with my business. My goal for my business in 2010 is to create a product that I am really happy with, and just run with it!
Don't you just love this crafty girl? You can visit Broken Box Designs for lots of really cute and unique clip art! I love her work!
3. Lose 30 pounds! Yeah, right! LOL! I at least need to start exercising and quit eating sweets! Those flavored Starbucks drinks and lots of chocolate are to blame for my gaining 5 lbs. recently.
4. Organize my home and get rid of everything that we don't need or use. Box up the things, in an organized way, that we do want to keep for sentimental reasons.
5. Find a great cause that I can help out with and be passionate about.
6. Go on a vacation this summer.
7. Meet some of my blogging friends, so we can do this:
8. Overcome my traveling issues. I want to start by thinking of some fun things to do with the girls in Houston. There is so much to do in Houston that we've never done!
9. Read the Bible more and lots of books.
10. Budget better and cook more, so that we don't spend so much money on eating out!
11. Get Lily to sleep in her own bed.
12. Write something (besides blog posts).
13. Do lots more fun things with the girls.
14. Make a point to do more family things on the weekends.
15. Find a babysitter, so we can have date nights!
Well, that's all I can think of right now! Hope everyone has a Happy New Year!! See ya next year! :D
Those flavored Starbucks drinks and lots of chocolate are to blame for my gaining 5 lbs. recently.4.
There is so much to do in Houston that we've never done!9.

Happy New Years Eve!

New Year's Resolutions
I was debating on whether or not to post anything about this year. I don't know why. It just seems nothing spectacular really happened. Just life. There are days when I love my life so much that I literally cry tears of joy from all of the blessings that God has given me. Then there are days when I cry tears of sadness, because I look at my life and myself and I don't even recognize the person I've become. One thing is certain, and that is that my faith and reliance on God only grows stronger each day.
There is really nothing at all in my life to complain about. But, like anyone who has lost someone important in their life, my grief sometimes overcomes me. To sit here and realize that it has been over 4 years since I lost my mom is just mind-boggling to me. I just don't believe it. I am still just as grief-ridden today as I was 4 years ago. I read lots of blogs about women who have lost their children, some newborns, and my loss does not even come close to comparing to theirs. But, in my case, losing someone I loved so much and who was such a part of my existence, has dramatically changed me into someone that I don't even know anymore.
Today, I am a mom with 3 precious girls. I struggle each and every day to be a good mom to them. Then I try to remember that my mom was not perfect. She had plenty of faults, but I only remember how much she loved me. I hope that one day my girls will not remember all the things I did wrong, but only how much I loved them.
I told my husband today that I really could not remember anything extraordinary that happened this year, and he reminded me that we did endure Hurricane Ike. That is true. We were very fortunate that it wasn't anything more for us than just an annoyance of lost power for a week, a fence blown down, and some leaky windows. God is so good to us.

This is a picture I took of the girls on our back porch, when we came back to survey the damage from Ike. It cracks me up because my husband said, "I just hope my satellite didn't blow off the house", and then we found it just hanging by a cord, and his grill blew off the porch and landed on it's side! LOL You can only laugh when the damage is so small. Yes, our fence blew down. The boards literally were snapped in half. Our office leaked. Big deal. We were so lucky to make it out with our lives, because so many did not. We are blessed beyond belief.
In the new year, I hope to do lots of things.
I hope to:
organize my home
redecorate
take my girls on more adventures
fight my anxiety issues
start going to church (this is the most important!)
get my business going
budget better
cook more
spend less time watching TV and on the computer
I pray that everyone has a blessed 2009. There are so many things that have changed this year, and I pray that we can only go forward and that things get even better from here!
