Our House

I decided to walk down memory lane today with Jenilee. I found these pics when going through my old hard drive the other day. They are of our house being built. I thought they were fun to look at, seeing as how we are about to embark on this house-building adventure again!

What I thought was really neat is that these have the dates on them. It's amazing to see how fast it was framed and how quickly they made progress on it. Our house was a completely custom house, designed by Morgan. That's what he does for a living, among many other things. We did not have to hire a builder; he was our builder. He just hired the contractors to do the work, but every day he was out there, supervising and making sure things were going as planned.

We will do our next house the same way. He has already drawn up the plans, which I will share one day.

So, first we started out with our empty lot. It was funny to look at these pics and see wooded areas where houses are now. Both of our neighbors beside us and across the street all built after we did.

Notice, this was end of May.
It literally rained the whole entire month of June when we got ready to build our house!!! It was insane! But, the rains finally stopped and we got started at the end of June.
Getting ready for the foundation, July 4th.
See all the woods around, where houses now are?! Look how little Madison and Kaylee were!
It looks like it only took about a week and the foundation was poured.
3 more days........1st floor is framed.
One more week, 2nd floor is up.
A couple more days, roof is going up.
So, it took less than a month to go from nothing, to this! It is always deceiving because the framing goes pretty fast, so you get all excited, but it's the inside that seems to take the longest!
Our house wasn't finished until November. We moved in on Thanksgiving weekend. So, it took about 4 more months for bricking, sheetrock, trim, flooring, cabinets, countertops, bathrooms, texturing, painting, windows, driveways, etc. There were still a few things we had to do after we moved in.

We put our house up for sale that we were living in and it sold to the first lady that looked at it! So, we moved into an apartment for September, October, and November while we were waiting for this one to be finished.
Of course, my Mom died in September of that same year, as we were waiting for it to be finished. It was bittersweet, moving into our house. It was a much welcomed distraction, and I'm so proud of Morgan and this beautiful home that he provided for us. I hope that the right family will come along and that they will share as many wonderful memories in it as we have.

We still have not had anyone come look at it yet, but we are moving ahead with our new lot on the water. It's amazing how we were looking at that one house, and then miraculously, the lot next door came up for sale that would allow us to build our own house. I have prayed many times for the Lord to lead us in the right direction, to help us make wise decisions, and to close the door if it's not in His plan. He has blessed us in ways I never would've imagined, and I am having faith that we will end up exactly where He wants us to be.

What an awesome post. I enjoyed the pics and seeing the house become a home. You are so right, though, in your last paragraph. Just letting go and knowing God will lead the way to what is best in our lives is the only way to go! I'll be praying for your new home to get underway soon! That's cool that Morgan can, um, build a house!! ;)I wish I knew all that stuff!
