Picking Kitchen Cabinets!

This morning, Morgan got a message that we needed to meet with the kitchen cabinets guy so that we could finalize what we wanted. I ended up just keeping Lily home from school, so that we could pick up Morgan from work and go. It was on the other side of Houston, over by where I used to work. I can't believe I used to drive that far every day just to go to work (about 40 minutes). It brought back lots of memories since I haven't been over there in forever!

I find it ironic that I used to make that drive every day, but now driving into Houston makes me all anxious and panicky. I had to pray and make that choice like I talked about in my post the other day, to not freak out and to trust the Lord to help me take these baby steps.

It turned out just fine and we were there for an hour and a half and Lily was really good, although she was starting to lose her patience there at the end. Ha! She thought she was big stuff because I packed her a lunch to take with us and let her use the girls' High School Musical lunch kit. :D

Anyhow, I was certain that I wanted the same exact style, color, and brand of cabinets that we have now. But, the guy Morgan wanted to use doesn't sell Kraftmaid and Morgan didn't want to have to go through Lowe's to get cabinets, because it would have been way more expensive.

Here's what our current cabinets look like. I am using this picture because it shows our table, or at least the chairs. We bought that table before our house was finished being built and we actually picked out these cabinets specifically because they matched that table. We like to do things backwards around here. Ha!
Anyhow, since we will have a dining room in our new house, I decided I would use that table for the dining room since it has a leaf and everything. So, I will be needing a new small table of some sort for the kitchen/breakfast area at our new house. Still though, I went in there today totally planning to get the same color cabinets.

We are getting Cardell brand cabinets. They are very similar to Kraftmaid and I have been so happy with Kraftmaid. They are so durable and don't have any wear whatsoever on them.

We picked out a similar door style for the kitchen:
And a flat panel style for the bathrooms. Our current house has white cabinets in the bathrooms, but we decided to do the same color wood this time as we will have in the kitchen.
When we went to look at cabinet stain colors, they didn't have anything that matched what we currently have. The closest color they had was just way lighter and the other closest color was way too red. So we totally surprised ourselves with picking out something way different:
It's called ebony and it's a dark brown, almost black, but still has that coffee brown/mocha undertone. I just LOVED it when I saw it, and I'm hoping it will look good! It's so hard to know when all you're seeing is a little piece of sample wood! But, I'm excited. In our kitchen now, we have the brown cabinets and black countertop and this will be kind of opposite and have the darker cabinets and we are going with a light tan granite countertop.

It will take 4 weeks for them to come in, which I'm kinda bummed about because I know they are going to hold up our progress, but that's just the way it goes. We'll do everything we can and then finish up with getting the countertops and tile flooring once the cabinets are installed. The best part of the day though, was when he told us the price and it was as low as what we paid for this house! I was really expecting it to be way more since that was 6 years ago. It's always exciting to come way under budget! Especially since Morgan has been going over budget on some other things due to materials going up in price.

Anyhow, it was a fun day and feels great to have that done!

I think that color is going to look awesome! I love dark colored cabinets and I bet it'll look really nice against the lighter counters too! And how awesome about them coming under budget! Yay!

What a fun day! I loved picking out everything with John when we were building this house. He loved it too. It was amazing that we agreed on most everything! (:>)

I am excited to see the finished result. The dark cabinets are pretty. And the light granite will be a nice contrast.

And it is so cool that you came in under budget on them too.

I went to my Beth Moore Bible Study tonight and it was awesome. She brought up a lot of verses that reminded us not to fear! I am so glad that you got the victory today when you started to panic...but made the trip anyway and won the victory over fear...by the grace of God!

Time for bed....

Love, Momma

How exciting! It is always fun (and a little stressful) to pick out new stuff.

It will be beautiful, i'm sure.
