My First Gussy and my Birth Mom Decision

I was SO excited this week, when I found a package from my BFF Veronica on my porch, and inside was my very first Gussy!!!! As Gussy says, "Yeow!!"

If you know who Gussy is, you know why I am SO excited! If you don't know who Gussy is, get over there to her blog and meet her!! She truly inspires me, as a handmade business owner.

Veronica first asked me if I had been to her blog several months ago and I stayed up way late reading it. What I love most about her is that she loves to support handmade businesses and she loves to give advice on what has worked for her.
So, this was just such an awesome gift to get in the mail! Gussy is just so inspiring, and super fun, and a great blog to read!

On a different note, the past few days I have been under attack. When I got Ver's package, it was actually a bright spot in my day, a much needed one! Y'all know I advocate for adoption and I believe it is one of the most beautiful things. I still believe that. However, it is not always a fairytale. I debated on whether to even talk about it, but I think it's important to keep it real on here. I have been getting the ugliest, nastiest, most vile and vulgar text messages on my phone from my birth mother. Messages that I literally had trouble reading because they used words that I won't even repeat. Seriously. It came completely out of the blue and without provocation. Y'all know I have always had nothing but a kind heart toward her, and have never hated her for her choice. I have always been incredibly grateful for being given up for adoption!

So, when I got the first message, telling me how I needed to forgive her and stop hating her, I promptly let her know that I have never hated her and I am so glad that she made that decision. Well, I won't go into further details, but it just made me realize how God has been looking out for me my whole life. He took this sick, malnourished infant, that surely would have died without proper medical care and he placed me in the hands of my Aunt Barbara, who knew that I needed a family and a home. You all know the rest of the story, that I was given to my parents (blood relatives) and raised with nothing but love. I just never really knew the extent of how important it was that God placed me in a family that could shelter me (emotionally) from everyone and give me hope and a future.

I was shocked to be so attacked by someone that you all know I would have given a chance. But, she is not mentally stable and she is blaming me for the fact that I was given up for adoption. I was an infant! I have never been spoken to by anyone in that way ever in my life. I will not apologize for the fact that I loved my Mom, Dana (my adopted mom), dearly with all of my heart. You would think that my birth mom would be thankful that I had such a wonderful life, but she is actually mad that I did and she didn't.

Literally, the only contact I have ever had in my life with her is once at a funeral and that one visit at Aunt Barbara's. So, she does not know me and I do not know her. I used to wonder if I might feel guilty later in life for not getting to know her better. Now, I actually have no desire to ever speak to her again. I will never wonder if I should have gotten to know her or feel guilty for not. I forgive her for her ugliness.......I know that was just an attack from the devil to try and cause me pain. But, I would be too fearful to ever speak with her again and I will have to change my number if her harassment continues.

It is a really odd position that I never expected to be in. I have never been one to hold grudges, but for my own safety, I cannot and will not speak with her again. Today, as I prayed to God to erase the thoughts of those messages from my mind, I clicked over to Amy's blog and her post was exactly what I needed to read. I love when God does that, when He speaks to us through other believers. It's almost like a direct response to my prayer! Then, my Aunt Barbara called just to check in with me and see how I was doing. Aunt Barbara is my birth mom's sister. Their mom, my grandmother, was also over there to offer her support.

I certainly am not writing this to bash on my birth mother. I just think I would not be keeping my adoption story honest if I pretended that it turned out all fairytales and roses. I have also always known that God has been holding me in the palm of His hand my entire life, but it just made me realize the extent of how amazingly He brought every detail together to give me the best life possible. It just makes me that much more thankful that I grew up with such loving parents, that most of all taught me to trust in Him. It also makes me realize how differently it could have all turned out. I don't know what kind of person I would be today, if it had. It truly is one of those things that will have me praising God for as long as I live (even though I would have anyways!). The one thing I will ask is that you might say a prayer for my birth mom, for her to be released from the torment that the enemy clearly has over her.

I have thought very hard about this decision and I have decided to change my business name. Most of you know that Summer Suzette was my birth name. I originally decided to use it because I thought it was cute and when asked, I could bring adoption awareness to others by explaning the meaning behind it. Unfortunately, this whole thing has tainted that name for me and I can no longer be proud to use it. It makes me feel like I am bringing honor to my birth mom and dishonor to my real mom. I haven't decided what to change it to, but I am certainly open to suggestions! I would love a shorter name (two words max) that is cute and goes along with the handmade dolls that I plan to make. Maybe I can take a poll on here once I have it narrowed down to a few. That would be fun!

I just feel like this year is a year of changes, positive ones that I am looking forward to!

Wow that certainly is a lot to deal with. I am so sorry that your birth mother is treating you this way, especially if it has been unprovoked. Hang in there with God on your side nothing can bring you down.

Like we talked about already, I'm just so sorry that things have turned out this way and that Susan had to be the way she was. That was not right at all. I will say a prayer for her and hope that she can go her own way so you can move on and go yours.

I'm so thankful that the Lord had has hand on your life and things went the way they did. If that hadn't happened, we would have never met and I wouldn't have met my best friend. You truly are a gift from God. So thankful to have you in my life! Thanks so much again for today! Love you!

I'm so sorry that this has happened. I know the enemy tries to get in there anyway he can and I'm just so sorry this was a way for him to do it.

I'm thankful that the Lord provided you with a loving caring family and that you were brought up in the Lord. What a wonderful testimony you have! I'll be praying for you and your birth mom.

What a fun package to get in the mail! That was very thoughtful of Veronica! I actually won one of Gussy's phone cases over at Anna Cabana's blog over the summer. So far (since my phone doesn't fit it) I've been keeping gift cards in it!

Hope you have a great rest of your week!

I'm so sorry that your birthmom has acted this way. She clearly is unstable, and I'm so glad you were adopted by a Christian family. Is there a way to block her from your phone?
As for the name of your store, maybe something with your adopted mom's name, like Dana's Designs & Dolls.
Your gift is so pretty! It's fun to get little packages to let you know someone loves you! You have a sweet BFF.

Precious bag. Gonna check out that blog soon.

Wow at your birth mom. Kristin, she's obviously a very sick woman. And her words to you are toxic. But empty and LIES. Praise the Father that you know that and know the absolute truth. I'll be praying for you.

Wow...Kristin. I cannot imagine anyone saying unkind things to you...especially your birth mother. You have the most gentle, loving spirit. And, you are a valuable, dearly loved treasure. God's hand in your life astounds me...what a beautiful gift that He saw you, His dear child and placed you in the arms of the mother who raised you.

I am sorry for the ugliness and hurt. There are not words I can say to offer comfort for that...and I cannot imagine the wounds from such words. It is another testament to that beautiful, gentle spirit in your heart that you are forgiving...knowing the real author of those words...and praying for the one who was used as a vessel to hurt you.

Sending love and prayers, my friend...

Love the Gussy! So super duper cute!!!

I hate that you had to experience that with your birth mother. That is absolutely terrible that she could say so many hurtful things to you just out of the fact that you ended up with the better life. I figured that was the whole goal of adoption?!

I like your attitude though Kristin! It's quite obvious that God always played a HUGE part in your life ands brought you to where you are. I'm sure it doesn't make it any less difficult to know that your own birth mother treated you that way. HUGS!

Excited to hear your ideas for your business!!!

Oh, Kristin...I am so sorry to hear that. But I love how you have been reminded through this that God had a hope and future for you all along. What a testimony to be able to share how He has protected you all along and given you so many blessings in your life. I can surely see His hand continuing to work in your life and it's exciting to hear you clinging to His truths. I will be praying for both of you, so your heart can be at peace and that her heart can be changed too. Know that I love you too and I am just so thankful for the work God has done in your life so you can be "here" sharing your testimony and being a great friend and encouragement to so many in this blogging community.

Kristin,
I spent a little time catching up here today. Looks like you all had a beautiful Christmas. That is exciting that you are building a new house. Just plain awesome!!!

Isn't is wonderful that God's timing is so precious! Love the gift that Veronica sent you. It is adorable. And what a way to uplift your heart in the midst of the trash that you are having to deal with right now. Just keep looking to Him to be your "all in all" and He will enable you to handle the whole thing as He would.

Loved catching up with your beautiful family today. Missed so much, but I plan to be around a little more often now. :)
Hope you have a great day!!!

God had a very special plan for you all along. There have been some deep valleys in your life for sure, but all the more reason to praise Him for finding you a way out of what could have been a horrible childhood.

hang in there. The best defense is prayer and kindness. You are in my prayers.

So sorry for the attack on you Kristin! She is a sad, unsaved and sick woman. I will pray for her.

God has certainly protected you and has been at work in your life all these years. He certainly blessed you by placing you with your adopted parents.

You are sweet and precious to God...and to all of us who love you!

Try to let go of those attacks...and just pray for her.

Read Psalm 37. That was my Momma's favorite Psalm.

I love you and I am so blessed to be your adopted blog Momma!

Oh my goodness - first of all I'm happy to finally put a face to the name I see ALL the time on Ver's facebook page :)

Secondly I'm so sorry for what you have been going through. I can't imagine what that must have been like to receive those kind of messages out of the blue like that. I'm praying for peace in your life - it sounds like you have found it so you're on the right road. It's apparent just by browsing through your blog how blessed you are - you have a beautiful family!!!!!!

Can't wait to get to know you better!!!!

I am so behind on checking in on everyone. I am SO sorry this has happened to you. I have always had such respect for you and the way you share your adoption story. I admire your thankfulness for your birth mother's decision to allow you to be adopted and have a better life.

Her attacks have nothing to do with you and everything to do with ugliness in her heart. I know that you know that, but I have found in my own recent situation that it helps to hear that from someone else:) Stay strong in your relationship with God. He will carry you through this.

During my recent situation, my Mom told me to listen to the song TO ME by Matthew West. She said that she wanted me to know that is how she feels about me and not to let the ugliness of other's words to overcast that love. I think if your Mom was alive, she would tell you the same thing. Listen to the words of that song and let the healing begin :)
Hug and Love,
Amy
