Fearless - Part 5 and My Weekend

Saturday, I went to a baby shower and totally forgot my camera! I was so upset! I had lots of fun though, lots of yummy food, and of course I loved seeing all the sweet baby things!

I got a cute printed box at Target and filled it with lots of goodies. I wish I had taken a picture of it, but I did remember to take pics of the two onesies that I made Miss Sadie Mae. Isn't that the cutest name ever?!!
Yesterday was a busy day too. We went to church, of course, and then out to eat lunch. Then, I dropped off Madison at her friend's house and Kaylee at her friend's house and Lily and I stopped by the new church to see it for the first time. It's going to be awesome! The guys are doing such a great job! We were going to move in this Sunday, but decided to wait until Easter, so that the guys wouldn't have to kill themselves any more than they already have been.

Yesterday at church, we took a huge group picture outside of all the families so that we can look back and remember those who were a part of the church from the very beginning. I am very excited to see what our church will accomplish in this next year! Now that I think about it, it's been one year since I started going to church! What an awesome year this has been! And Good Friday marks 32 years since my adoption was made final too!

So, stick with me through our lesson on David and Goliath from church yesterday, because it was really good!!

*********************

We talked about the story of David and Goliath for our last sermon in our Fearless series. Goliath was over 9 ft. tall and was part of the Philistine army. For 40 days, the Philistines and Israelites would go out to the battle line and every day, Goliath would come out and pour out obscenities and taunt the Israeli army. King Saul was broken and terrified. They didn't think there was any way to win, and if they lost, Israel would be doomed.

David was the youngest of 7 and he took care of the sheep. On the 41st day, he decided to go check out his brothers at the battle line. Israel had been retreating every day because of Goliath. They had gotten so used to Goliath, but for David, seeing him was something completely new.

We all have our own giants. Maybe we've tried to fight our giant and lost, making us now paralyzed by fear. But at some point, we have to say no more!! We have to have battle strategies to fight our giants.

First, we have to hear the lies. Hear the lies the enemy is telling you, so that you can know that's what they are, remember them, and recognize them. You can't recognize the lies for what they are unless you know the truth. The truth is God's word and it helps distinguish the lies so that we can recognize them. When David sees Goliath, he immediately recognizes the lie. He didn't just get used to Goliath; he knew Goliath didn't have the living God on his side.

What lies are you ignoring and believing? The truth is that God can restore all things, you can do all things through Christ, God is crazy about you and loves you. He is your Deliverer, your Rock, and your Redeemer. Some say to believe in God is only for the weak minded, but those who believe know that He will never leave you or forsake you.

So, when David speaks up against Goliath, everyone thinks he's crazy!! David tells Saul he'll fight Goliath and Saul is like what are you thinking?!! But, David was moved to action. When you are ready to take on your giant, that's when it begins!! People will think you're crazy. They'll begin to talk. And that's where the next battle strategy comes in: Don't listen to naysayers and remember your God stories!

David didn't listen to those who thought he was crazy. He began to tell Saul about all of the times God had done great things in his life, and He knew that God had done it before and would do it again. Goliath thought it was a big joke to see David coming toward him. Goliath had all these weapons and all David had was some stones and a sling.

But, David didn't focus on the giant; He focused on God. You are beaten already if you compare yourself to your giant. Don't do that. Focus on God. Be encouraged by the size of your God. Don't be discouraged by the size of your giant. David wasn't worried. He knew his God was bigger than any giant. Compare your giant to your God, not to yourself. Remember those times God has brought you through in the past, your God stories.

So, David sprinted toward Goliath, hit him with a stone, the giant fell, and David made good on his promise to cut off Goliath's head. This entire story is from 1 Samuel 17. In God's strength, He slayed the giant and the giant went down! Victory happened! And why does God work this way? So that the whole world will know there is a God that reigns in your life!!! That's the purpose for your giants and that is why you can do what David did. You can fight your giants with confidence, knowing that you will have victory, because God will get the glory when you do things that you couldn't possibly do in your own strength!
