iMarriage, Part 2

Before I tell y'all what I learned in our 2nd part of iMarriage today at church, I had to show you how I found Lily last night in her bed:
I about died laughing when I saw where her lollipop ended up! LOL!!!!!!!!! Isn't that the funniest thing ever?!! I had to peel it off her forehead. Hee hee! It makes me laugh every time I see this picture!

Okay, so at church last week, we left off with asking ourselves the most important question:

What does your spouse owe you?

You have to look at the expectations you have from your spouse. Expectations are burdensome and there is no love or gratitude when you feel like they're supposed to do something.

So, have you figured out what the answer should be to this question? The correct answer is that your spouse owes you NOTHING. The only way to turn expectations back into things you desire is to conclude that your spouse owes you nothing. Don't use your bible as ammunition or manipulation into getting your spouse to do what you want. Great marriages are not built around a code of conduct or roles or exchanges of services or even common interests.

Great marriages are built around submission for Christ's sake. Submission means placing the dreams, wishes, and desires of someone else ahead of "I". You show Christ's love by loving your spouse. You take the free gift that you didn't deserve from Christ and you give that love to your spouse. Just as we didn't do anything to deserve Christ's love, your spouse does not owe you anything. You are to be the tangible expression of God's love to your spouse. God wanted to show you how much He loves you, so He designed marriage this way, so you can show your spouse His love. The only thing you can control in your marriage is how you love your spouse. There is no guarantees back.....you can't control the way they love you back. You can't be controlling or manipulating. You can't say "it's not fair." We deserved death, but instead Christ loved us and gave us grace. His grace wasn't fair. We are to love our spouses unconditionally, just as Christ loves us, no matter what and even when it's not fair.

This week was very interesting to me. I don't know of any couples who don't expect certain roles of each other. It was funny because they showed us this little video clip of this guy at the beginning of the service where he wants to return his "iMarriage" because of technical difficulties. He was talking about how when he comes home, he just wants dinner made and the house cleaned and laundry done. Is that too much to ask? That's what he expected and it wasn't done, so he wants a refund. The "sales clerk" tells him, "Oh, you must have meant to order iMaid." Then, he goes on to say he just wants a little bit of understanding from his wife, and the clerk says, "Oh, I think you're talking about iMom." LOL!!!!

The sucker on the forehead is HILARIOUS!!! I need to go back and read iMarriage part 1. I heard a great definition of submission once and it was - being 'under' another's mission. I think that was great concerning us and Christ - being submissive to His will. Being under and supporting His mission/vision. Need to go read more....

That video sounds really funny! I love your post today, well I love your posts, always! Great idea on your spouse owing you nothing! You can only control your actions and your "love" towards them! Too bad more people don't do this! I guess if they did, I would be out of business :)

Oh that is too funny! That lollipop is really stuck to her head!!! Did Lily see the picture and think it was funny too? (:>)

My little girls would go to bed chewing gum sometimes when I didn't know it and it would get stuck in their hair. What a mess.

I liked what you learned this week about marriage. It is all sooo true!

I didn't go to church again today because my toe is really sore and I can't wear shoes and I really didn't feel good. I really hate it when I have to miss church. John stayed home with me and we did devotions and prayer, and I watched Turning Point with David Jeremiah,...he is such a good preacher.

Tonight John is going to go on to church by himself. They are honoring Veterns today.

Speaking of our service men,...wasn't the Fort Hood story so sad! I really can't believe it happened. This old world is so full of troubles sometimes. How could we ever cope without our hope and faith in God?

All for now.

Love, Linda

That picture is just hysterical. Oh my! I love it. That video sounded great too. So so true. I think it is great that there should be no expectations...just always giving of yourself to better the relationship...putting others first.

Awe! Look at Lily! Poor thing! At least it didn't end up in her hair. I imagine that wouldn't be too fun at all!

I think that I am going to get Dustin to start reading over all of your iMarriage posts with me. It will be like we are participating too the way you go into detail :) That video clip is hilarious!!!

Also, I started reading the book over the weekend. I am already on Chapter 17! I really like it so far. I think it is neat how they alternate every other chapter or so, it keeps me interested!

What a cute pic of Lily! LOL So funny!

This series on marriage sounds awesome! There is not too many people that I have come in contact with in this world that really gets the way that marriage is supposed to express the love of Christ for His bride. Always extending His unconditional love, acceptance, mercy and grace, never expecting that it is returned for Him to continue reaching out, but loving it so much when the loved one returns to be loved some more. The only way to truly experience a great marriage is to love in that way and just enjoy it when it is returned in whatever way it is expressed.
