Could this be what I've been preparing for?

Join us on a walk down memory lane by clicking on the button below!

I'm going to go out on a limb today and post about something kind of neat.
It's not a distant memory, but rather something I would like to remember later on.
It's something I just found out about, and it could fall through and never happen.
But, the things leading up to it are so weird that I just have to share.

If you read my blog, you've probably heard me talk about how I've always wanted to open a resale shop (a nice one, not a junky one) and how I've always felt like in the back of my mind, I was meant to run a food or clothing bank for the less fortunate. I even listed both of these things in my "100 things about me" post.

Also, I have always been drawn to our local pregnancy resource center's ministry ever since I found out about them about a year ago. I just think what they do is wonderful and I have always thought that once Lily got a little older, I definitely wanted to volunteer there. They provide Christian support and encouragement for young girls who find themselves pregnant, by offering parenting classes, clothing and diapers, and just many other services to show these young women that abortion is not the answer.

Let me back up a little. Before I started blogging, and before the economy got so bad, I was seriously preparing myself to open up a resale shop. I'm talking a million excel spreadsheets to work on the budget, what I would need, would it be resale or consignment, what software to use, where it would be, forms I would use, fixtures to buy, etc. I chatted online with ladies from "Too Good to be Threw", which is a website that was set up by the leading resale expert, Kate Holmes. In fact, I even had the name for my shop: "Mommyhood Rocks!" Isn't that so cute? LOL! I bought the resale manual that Kate Holmes wrote, explaining in detail how to run your store, etc. This was literally an obsession of mine for months!

I always thought it was kind of weird, to be so obsessed about it, and then I was really bummed when the economy got so bad. I knew it just wasn't the right time to try and open a boutique.
So, then I started blogging and ended up opening my online boutique, so I just kind of thought it was never meant to be.
By the way, this picture is from Principessa Boutique in Highland Park, Illinois. This is what I would want my store to look like! I hope she doesn't mind me posting it here. I am just in awe of her! This is a resale shop, but you would never know it by looking at it!
So, why is Kristin rambling on about all this? Well, today I got the e-newsletter from the Pregnancy Resource Center and it said in there that they are thinking about opening up a resale shop and they are looking for people to help out, that they will need a location, a store manager to run the shop and make it look cute, etc. This shop will be for the public, but will help raise funds for their ministry, as well as providing an awesome opportunity to minister to the public on a daily basis!
Is that not amazing? Is it possible that this is why I was so obsessed all those months with researching everything about resale shops? Is it possible that this is why I've always followed the pregnancy center's ministry? Seriously, this would be my dream job! To get to work in this kind of shop and also have ministry be a major part of it!
Of course, you know how yesterday I was talking about never putting myself in a position to where I have to really have faith? This is where faith comes in. I've never met the director from the pregnancy center, I don't really have any experience in running this type of shop.....I could go on and on listing all the reasons I'm not qualified. But, something tells me that this might just be what God has been preparing me for. This whole past year of researching resale shops, renewing my walk with Christ, my love for all things baby, my yearning to find a cause to work and volunteer with.
I suppose I'm completely crazy and this isn't at all what God has planned for me, but I was just so excited when I read about this that I had to share it. No matter what happens, I hope you will at least say a prayer that they are able to get this going because I think it is a wonderful idea for our community and for the girls that they serve. It's something that I would love to be a part of one day and I know that if this is what God has planned for me, then it will fall into place.

It reminds me of my favorite quote from Abigail:
"The truth of a passion always rings true in a soul, even when it hasn't been discovered yet."
By the way, I wanted to say a heartfelt Thank You to Veronica for praying that I would have a breakthrough.........she is the very best friend that a girl could ever have!!

Kristin, I agree,... this might just be something that would serve many purposes and it could be what God is leading you to do.

I will pray about it for you,...and it will be exciting to see what happens.

I love your heart for ministry,...and your love for your Savior.

God knows your beautiful heart and He will bless your willingness to serve Him and others.

I am so happy that the Lord is doing so many awesome things in your life!

When you mentioned a resale store, I had never pictured it to be something as awesome as the one you have pictured on this post. That was be so amazing!

I will be so excited to see where all of this leads to. Thank you for always being there to encourage me when I am about to lose it. I seriously don't know what I would do without you. I am holding onto the hope that we'll get to meet in person one day (that's another thing I actually included in my prayers last night) and I can give you a great big hug!

Can't wait to see what will happen next! I know it's going to be great!

Love you lots!

That is awesome, Kristin! You're right, the pic of the resale shop in the pic does't look like a 'resale shop'. It looks like a cute, girly gift store. Hope everything turns out well! :0)

Oh, how very exciting! I have to tell you that my sister has owned a consignment shop for about 15 years now in Florida. She has struggled for many years but because of this economy, these have been her best years yet. People who may not have considered buying or consigning clothes are now doing this. So, her business is finally booming. She also got in touch with a woman who buys gold jewelry. Every month this woman comes to the shop and the gals can bring in their old jewelry for cash. Since they're in my sister's shop they often buy a few extra items too. So it's a win-win for both. Contact me by email if you ever need any more info. My sis isn't on the internet much but I'm sure she'd be willing to talk to you if you need any pointers. She's learned the hard way.

Oh gosh Kristin! I am so very happy for you. I really hope that it all works out the way you want it to. It sounds like such an awesome opportunity. If for some reason it does not work out, I hope that in the near future you will be able to achieve all of your goals. I know you have it in you to do so and be successful at it as well!

It's amazing how out of the blue God can present an opportunity for you. While we might be reluctent to begin something in this economy as you say - there is no "custom" or "normal" for Him, and if He urges you to begin this journey at this moment... who are you to deny His plan, right? :) Congratluations!

Yeah!!! Don't you just LOVE it when God does cool things like that?? I definitely think He could have put resale shops on your heart for this very reason!! Don't waste a second--call that Pregnancy Center, girl! They're hoping and praying for someone like you : )

I just love what God is doing in your life right now, Kristin. It's beautiful to watch, and I know God delights in it even more. He delights in YOU!

Kristin...I am so fired-up excited about this possibility! One of my favorite things is to see the Lord work in this way...using the gifts, abilities, and dreams He has planted into the hearts of His people to fulfill His plans and purposes. I love it! Love watching a dream grown and blossom. I think He loves it too! Then the ripples of blessing pour out...reaching many...blessing many. I don't know what He has planned, but I can't see what He does. Rest assured...nothing is ever an accident with Him. Praying for His leading for you....

Keep us posted!

Love,
Kelly

I think this is awesome. IF I lived close to you I would do it with you and we would have the coolest shop. This might be your calling, just keep yourself available and God has perfect timing so if your willing He will make it be known. Let me know, this is so cool.
