Wax on, Wax off

Today was exactly what I needed to hear at church. I have been thinking alot lately about how I just don't know if I'm cut out for this "serving" thing. I just have no idea what I'm doing, I'm not qualified, I hardly know anything, except that I know I love Him. Well, today I just had a big smile on my face at church as I listened to what seemed like a direct answer to my prayers.

We talked today about how God doesn't call the qualified. He qualifies those He calls. There is nothing insignificant in life that is done for the significant cause of Christ!

Our Pastor used the "Karate Kid" movie an example. He said sometimes we don't understand how the little things we do for Christ are all meaningful. We think things aren't important unless they are huge things, but he said that the one small thing you do may be the one thing that connects someone to the power of Christ. Like in the "Karate Kid" movie, Daniel didn't understand why when he showed up to Mr. Miyagi's house, all he got to do was wash the cars, wax the cars, paint the fence, paint the house. This wasn't what he expected.....he wanted to get straight to fighting. But, Mr. Miyagi soon showed him how all those little things were preparing him for the fight. He was learning in all those seemingly meaningless tasks, he just didn't realize it.

Another thing we talked about was our kids and their obedience. When we ask our kids to clean their rooms, we expect them to do it right then. We don't want to hear them tell us how they're getting their plan together of how to clean their room, and getting their thoughts together, and how one day when they have it all lined up just right and the time is right, they'll go clean their room. Isn't that how we treat our Heavenly Father though? He asks us to do something, and we are disobedient. We don't see it as disobedient, because we have a million reasons why we can't be obedient right then, but we always say we'll be obedient "when......." and that time never comes.

God has given us everything we need to do what he wants us to do. If we know in our hearts that there is something He wants us to do, we shouldn't question that. We shouldn't worry about whether we are qualified. We should be obedient and let Him take care of the rest. We shouldn't question why, because obviously God knows why and He knows better than us how everything fits into His plan.

So, that was my day at church. We even sang "While I'm Waiting", which is one of my favorite songs!

Tonight, my very favorite band Leeland is in town and having a concert at their church. My friend Stacey invited me to go and I can't wait!!! If you don't have Leeland's CD "Opposite Way" yet, I really think you should hop in the car right now and go get it! I found mine at Best Buy.

Kristin, I love it when you share with us what God is showing you, and what you are learning at church!

I didn't feel good today, and so I didn't get to go to church. I hate to miss. So, anyway, thanks for sharing. I loved how your preacher gave the Karate Kid analogy to make his point. That is such a good description of how it works.

I love that song from Fireproof. That was such a good movie. I can't wait to see what kind of movie that church makes next, because they keep getting better!
And it is good that so many unchurched/and unsaved people see them too. But they are challenging and moving stories for all of us.

Does Morgan like the preacher at your church too? I'm am sure that he is noticing the changes in his wife since she has come back to the Lord and is loving Jesus so much and wanting to serve God.
Just keep on being faithful sweetie. The Lord loves you so much,...and don't worry,...He will open up places for you to serve, because He sees your heart and knows that you desire to please Him, and to help others. I think you have a heart the size of Texas!

Enjoy the concert tonight.
Love, Linda

I think I need to buy Leeland's CD now!! You should be their advertising CEO!

I know what you mean about not feeling qualified enough to serve--my hubby and I feel that way often, too, but the desire to serve God is so strong within us and like you said, we have to remember that God qualifies those he calls--He gives us the strength we need!

Thanks for that wonderful reminder, Kristin! It's so good to be back! I missed reading what God was doing in your life and all your beautiful comments, too!
