Making Jesus a Part of Every Moment

Today, I am just amazed at my life. If you have been following me while I walk this journey, you know that God has been so present and has been doing so many amazing things in my life. It was several months ago that an innocent conversation with a friend really got me to thinking about what I believed and about who I wanted to be.

I was talking with my friend about who gets to go to Heaven. I had always been taught that you have to accept Jesus as your savior to go to Heaven. I was saved, had been baptised, and I knew I was going to Heaven. I had always had a relationship with the Lord, my faith was strong, so I never really thought about the "why". She said she just couldn't believe that a person who is a good person, takes care of people, volunteers, etc. would be sent to Hell. At the time, I just did not have the answers for her.

I got off the phone with her that night, and I just really began to think about our conversation. I always prayed daily, and I knew that I had a good relationship with the Lord. But, I told him that I didn't understand and I asked Him to please help me understand. I asked Him to please make Himself known to me, to let me know that it was really Him that I was talking to, that He really did hear me. I certainly believed it was Him, I knew I would absolutely die if I ever found out otherwise, but I just couldn't feel Him. I had been praying for 4 years for Him to help me out of my deep depression after losing my Mom, and I couldn't feel Him there.

I guess I was talking the talk, but not really walking the walk. I thought about the things I had prayed for all those years, since I was a little girl. I realized that they were all selfish things. Things about how God could help make MY life better, things God could do for ME. But, I wasn't even trying to do anything for Him. When I started to pray that He would open my eyes and help me see, I even told Him that He might have to slap me over the head with some things, because sometimes I just don't listen! Well, let me tell you, He has been doing just that! He has sent so many people to me, and each one has had an amazing role in helping me to learn. It's like every time I ask Him a question, He sends something or someone in my path to help me understand the answers.

My life began to change before my very eyes. My anxiety disappeared. Sure, it tries to creep back up every now and then, but I would say that I am 99% cured. My desires changed. I began listening to Christian music and now I just can't get enough of it! I had no idea that such great artists even existed and their music speaks right to my heart. It's like a whole new world opened up to me that I had no idea about! (Speaking of, I found the Gospel Music Channel on TV a few days ago and it is AWESOME!) Suddenly, all of these wonderful bloggers started reaching out to me. Each one of them, holding a specific purpose for helping me to be closer to the Lord and to understand. There were even many "real life" people that God sent to me to help me make that next step....people that I didn't even really know, but each serving His purpose as they reached out to me. He even helped me find specific books that would help answer the questions that I had.

When I prayed, I changed the way I prayed. Instead of telling God all that I wanted Him to do to make my life better, I started to pray for all of the people that I knew who really needed Him. I started asking Him to use me in whatever ways He could to bring others to Him. Sometimes I think, who am I to tell others about the Lord? My education as far as the Bible is concerned is pretty much at a child's level, but then I read something on a church website that made perfect sense to me:

God doesn't call the equipped, He equips those that He calls.

So, now I'm asking God to please lead me to the right church. I don't want to go to church to be sociable, or to have a reason to get dressed up, or to see what so-in-so has been up to. I want to be led to the right church where I can best serve Him. I want my girls to learn about Jesus and accept Him into their hearts. I want my husband to come to know Him. I see and hear about so many people who are very active in their churches, and they are happy because their church serves a purpose for them, but what are they doing to reach beyond those comfortable walls of their church to reach people like me? I hope that doesn't sound too harsh, but the churches I have been visiting are those that have reached out to me. I want to be that person one day. I want to be able to reach out to others and be an example of a strong, Christian woman. Not because I am perfect, not because I do everything right, not because I am better than anyone else, but because I want others to know what I now know.......

we are not meant to live life alone, without Jesus. Life is not meant to be lived without making Jesus a part of every single moment.

Kristen,
I just love your purt honest heart. I totally get what you want and need in a church. Many are what your describing. God will keep revealing Himself in many ways to you. He will also use you in ways that you never thought he could. I really can relate with your anxiety problem and only through Him can I function. I so wish we lived closer so we could talk, and let our kids play. You seem like the kind of friend that I need. Keep searching, praying and serving.

Kristen, this is so awesome!! What a beautiful and honest post! I agree with Katie--I wish we lived closer (although Texas really isn't that far from Louisiana) I am so excited that you had what I call a God-shift in your life--where love for others is born out of Love for your Saviour! Your testimony is so precious and I have no doubt that God is going to use you to reach many who may be in the same place you were! Your heart is just beautiful and I know that God is beaming with love for you. Your willingness to serve him and your desire to learn from him bless his heart!!

One more thing! It is so refreshing to hear that you want to go to church to serve and not just to be served!!! That is the whole purpose of the church. Not a social club but a loving family of servants! I will be praying that you find the church home that you can serve him the most effectively in!

Love,
Joye

Kristin,
Again, we are on the same wave length today. Earlier this morning my very best friend from high school called me and we were talking about my journey and the ways that the Lord is showing himself to me. I told her that for the longest time I was afraid to let go and let the Lord have his way with me. You know that song that says, If you can use anything Lord, You can use me, well for all these years I was afraid to let the Lord do just that. Like we were talking about just yesterday, sometimes we might feel like unlikely candidates to witness to others, but sometimes we are the kinds of people that can be used as a vessel for God anyways. I'm ashamed that after almost 20 years of being a Pastor's kid, I don't know the Bible that well either, but it all starts with baby steps. God is working, there's no doubt about that!

I know I keep saying this, but I am so glad that we have become friends. You are such a blessing to me. Can't wait to see what's next for you!!! Love ya, and hope you guys have a great day tomorrow!!!

Kristin,
I loved this post because your heart shines through. I can tell that you want to serve Christ and that you want him to use you. It's exciting to hear you say that - and it's been exciting to watch it!

I have enjoyed getting to know you so much. Abigail and I (and my mom) say all the time how much fun it'd be to meet in person. Maybe we'll have the chance someday. Wouldn't that be great fun! :)

Well, I better get to bed.
Have a wonderful Easter with your family.
Love,
Lynnette

Kristen,
I love this post! You are so right about God using those of us who think, "why me?" "I'm not the right person - because...."
I just got all caught up on your posts for the week - we were on a little getaway - I'll post pics soon! I love that you and your family sat and looked at all the old pics - and the new pics of your little girl posing are so cute!
Happy Easter! I thought about you when I was sitting in church today. I was wondering if you were attending somewhere today. At the end of the service our pastor said, "I want to thank you for coming today. If you are a visitor and this is your first time back at church I want you to make a commitment to finish this series with us(6 wks). If you are visiting I pray that you find a Bible teaching church in your area. The enemy will try to convince you that you can do it on your OWN - that you don't NEED a church home - but you DO!"
Kristen, I pray that you find your church home soon! :)

You go girl! I am so excited to hear about your walk of faith and how truths are being revealed to you and how your life is changing in such a positive way. I think that a lot of people have been where you've been. They believe, and love God... but their head and heart haven't made the connection yet. When that head and heart connection happens... watch out! :) I'm so happy for you and the freedom you're experiencing from things like grief and anxiety. What a truly awesome God we serve. He is risen! Happy Easter, friend. ((Hug))

I am so blessed to have met you while I am early on in my spiritual journey. I found a church that does a lot of outreach and opened their arms to me about 2 years ago. I suffered from severe depression for several years after the loss of my brother in 1994 and only God to help with that pain. I pray that you will continue on this journey along with your family and will find a place for your very sweet heart. Your stories continue to help me on my way.
